New Concepts in Modern Policing – Criminal Personality Profiling

Bogdan Tasu

Abstract

The importance of criminal profiling is widely accepted. As an investigative tool, this method of crime scene approach may provide useful information in serious crimes management,
including homicide, rape, arson or burglary. Based on crime scene data and personality theories, profiling may be seen as a deductive inferring process which can help police officers to apprehend a serial offender. Although in most modern police agencies the use of criminal profiling is mandatory, Romanian police has his first step in it. This article will provide the general principles of the method.
