Methods that a change agent should apply in order to reduce more effectively employees’ resistance to change
Abstract
The aim of this study is to inform practitioners, managers, researchers and other interested persons about the resistance to change phenomenon and the main methods a change agent should apply in order to reduce more effectively employees’ resistance to change.
Analyzing the main methods for reducing employees’ resistance to change I have found that there are positive and negative methods and in order to have pro change employees, the change agent must first apply the positive methods, gaining their trust and involvement, and only if the expected result is not obtained, to resort to the application of the negative methods. A case study was conducted in Romanian organizations, the results containing answers both from top managers and operational officers.
The main contribution of this paper is that there is a strong correlation between resistance to change and the main methods for reducing employees’ resistance, the change agent having the role of choosing one or a few methods that fit best company’s situation at a time.
