Bread and Pastry Names in the Bulgarian Dialects of Ukrainian Danube Region

Abstract


The article analyses and classifies the names of bread and pastry, functioning in the Bulgariandialects of Ukrainian Danube region. The ceremonies, connected with baking of bread for differentreligious and family festivities among Bessarabian Bulgarians are described. The analysis ofdialectological texts has shown that most of bread and pastry names in the Bulgarian dialects in theSouth of Ukraine have been formed on the general Slavonic basis. The given lexical group reflects thesemantic peculiarity of local dialects, their preserved archaic signs. It was defined that part of the namesof bread and pastry was borrowed from Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish and Romanian, which is connectedwith polylinguality of Ukrainian Danube region.
