Romulus Scriban, Portrait of a Poet, “Entirely and Unfairly Forgotten”
Abstract
Our approach aims at bringing into the light of historical research the personality and work of Romulus Scriban, one of the notable members of a Romanian family that has given an impressive number of cultural personalities that distinguished themselves in pedagogical, political, literary, and theological areas of activity.
In this article of historical research, in order to bring in a clearer light Romulus Scriban’s life and work, we make use of various didactic materials. First, we analyze archive material that consists mainly in correspondence with family members. Then we summarize the information received from the writings of historians who have treated historical episodes that include Romulus Scriban such as George Călinescu, Nicolae Iorga, George Potra, etc. In addition, we extract from the writings of Romulus Scriban, active in both the contemporary press and literature, details meant to complete his portrait and to formulate some conclusions on its work, echoes of it, and his legacy.
