A Comparative Study between The Counterfeiters by Andre Gide and The Observations of Ahmet Mithat, a Point of View of Metafiction and Mise En Abyme
Abstract
We stated some literary resemblances between Les Faux-Monnayeurs/ Counterfeiters (1925) d'André Gide(1869–1951) and Müşehadat/Observations (1891)of Ahmet Mithat Efendi, turkish novelist(1844–1913): the narrative methods and literary considerations concerning the novel, the fact that the process of writing the novel contitutes the subjet of the novel itself, the critic of the naturalist school, the metafictive collaboration with the reader. Andre Gide and his works are worldwidely known. When he was alive, his works had been translated in twenty six languages and the studies on him passed fifty. The litterateurs appreciate the real place of Andre Gide by his novel innovations that he brought to the the novel. On the contrary, the literary place of Ahmet Mithat and his contribution to the novel aren’t sufficiently appreciated. We aim to introduce the original side of Ahmet Mithat Efendi who wrote a metafictive novel thirty four years just before Andre Gide
