Abstract
The financial situation of the Southern Bessarabian cities under conditions of the Russian Empire entering the First World War was examined in the article. Based on the analysis of the budgets, financial reports and records of the meetings of the municipal councils of the Southern Bessarabian cities, kept in the funds of the National Archives of the Republic of Moldova, the author disclosed the factors that affected the deterioration of the city’s finances, as well as the main areas of financial activity of the local self-government bodies in the first months of the war.
