Phonetic Assimilation and Adaptation of French Borrowings in the Language of the Ga-gauz People Living in the Low Danube Region

Valentyna Shevchuk

Abstract

There is a phonetic adaptation in the process of word borrowings from one language into another. This scientific article is the analysis of the phonemes which came into the Gagauz language from the French one. These borrowings were changed under the influence of some phonetic rules of the Gagauz language. Working on this problem one should take into consideration how the pronunciation of the adopted words has changed under the influence of a new phonetic system or, on the contrary, has kept its original pronunciation.
