Abstract

The contemporary worldwide familiarisation with such authors like N. Dabija, G. Vieru, D. Matcovschi, A. Russo, G. Coșbuc, I. Minulescu etc., shows that the most remarkable literary writings of the Romanian literature prove their perpetuation in time and area. There are many literary works where the Danube appears as a witness of the great historical events, of the people’s sorrow, of the nation’s brave defeat of the enemy, and of course, the Danube is depicted as a splendid inspiration for the poets’ reflection about the nation’s destiny; the miraculous beauty of the Danube is expressed by the Romanian writers as well. We are impressed, for example by the thoughts of Alecu Russo about the Danube, in his extraordinary prose poem :The Song of Romania:, that sounds like this: :The old Danube, conquered by your ancestors, kisses your seashore and brings you treasures from the lands where the sun rises and where the sun sets…:. G. Vieru expresses his sadness, as well as his patriotism for Romania, also referr-ing to the Danube: :My Danube / Flows into my sea / They wrote it in the book /  However  that  book was burnt:In the poem by G. Coșbuc :The Danube and the Olt:, the Danube is depicted in a cloudy tone;  the historical events of our ancestors are rendered in grey sorrow co-lours. Whereas the symbolist poet Ion Minulescu rendered the holy patriotism of those people who fought and lost their lives on the Danube; he compares these people with wondering, pure  cranes on the stirred, muddy Danube. The Romanian literature perpetuates in time and area due to its unique depth while expressing the soul of our nation, the peoples’ everyday worries, and hope.
